Forget diamonds. This girl loves her iPhone.
While I adore my DSLR, most of the time it simply isn’t a practical option. Growing up in this day and age we’ve seen our camera phones go from potatoes to magical devices that take astounding pictures- but it doesn’t stop there. A reliable app can step up your snapshots and give you the chance to express yourself and be an artist. Here are my favorite go-to iPhone photo apps:
Think of this app as your cleaner-upper. While it’s not free ($5) it comes with everything you need. Sometimes our phone’s camera isn’t the best at compensating for bright backgrounds; you’re either left with a blown-out image or the foreground in shadow. Snapseed allows you color-correct your images and target those troublesome spots with “Selective Adjust,” allowing you to brighten up faces and subjects to balance out with the background. The black and white filters are surprisingly customizable, and the “Drama” and “HDR” filters can add some extra pop to your landscape pictures. Tilt Shift” and “Center Focus” mimic the dreamy blur of Instagram with much more customization. The filters are a little extreme, but they’re fun if you want to be creative and abstract. They too can be customized in what seems to be a million ways, which can make them almost daunting and unappealing to use. Overall I use this app for tweaking and polishing before slapping on filters.
Rhonna Designs is the go-to app for online marketing and adding text and at $2 it’s a wonderful investment for bloggers. I use it a lot to avoid cropping my images by simply opening my picture, pinching it to fit the square size, and saving it. Rhonna comes pre-loaded with beautiful images of inspirational quotes, stickers, and graphics. You can add more packages for a couple bucks here and there. You can even create your own images with their cute backgrounds. Rhonna can get pretty in-depth; with the Mask feature you can use the graphics to “cut out” parts of your image. It also has frames and filters, which are about as customizable as Instagram.
This is a new app for me but it’s hands-down my favorite. VSCO Cam has the best interface and filters out of anything else I’ve played with. The filters are elegant and modern – think your favorite magazines and online articles like Elite Daily and Thought Catalog. The faded look is super trendy right now and VSCO cam allows you to achieve that with ease. A big plus is that it hides the fuzziness and imperfections a camera phone usually has. There are LOADS of $1-$6 add-ons which can get a little mind-numbing, but the bundles in the store make it easier to purchase them in one fell swoop. I haven’t tried the social aspects of this app because I don’t care about other people’s pictures; I just wanna make mine pretty! ;)
